The Mitsubishi Outlander matches up best against its counterparts. Price wise, it is cheaper than all but the Ford Escape XLS. Its base MSRP is $22,345 compared to the Escape at $21,440.

Of the four listed above, all get 23 MPG city except the Equinox LS, which gets 22 MPG. The Ford Escape has a slightly larger engine, but they are all very close in size.

Comparing the interior, all have a folding rear seat center armrest except the Escape. Only the Outlander has a leather wrapped steering wheel. The Outlander and Honda CR-V LXX both have the micro filter and rear seat heater ducts.

As to the exterior, the Outlander is the only one that offers roof rails as a standard feature. It is also the only car that offers the flap-fold tailgate. All have electronic brake distribution except the Ford Escape. As to the front crash test, the safest with a rating of 5 was the Chevy Equinox.
